There are a lot of non-combat skills in the game. Like... hundreds. You can learn as many skills as you can get your hands on -- some are harder to find teachers for than others. 

As you begin the game, it's wise to learn every skill you can! But after you get the hang of things, you'll find that some skills are more expensive to raise than others. While every player can easily level First Aid (for instance), other skills like Carpentry or Tailoring become more and more expensive to learn, so after level 50 or so, you'll want to pick just a few of those expensive skills to focus on.

So you can be a "jack of all trades" at the beginning of the game, but don't try to do that forever -- you'll find yourself spread too thin! At high level, you'll want to get help from other players to fill in the trade skills you don't have.

Here's a look at some of the non-combat skills. Some are "trade skills", and some are just utility skills, and some are a mix of both. And this list is already obsolete before the website has even launched, so expect to find many more as you play!

Alchemy

The art of combining esoteric things together to make potions and poisons.

Armor Patching

Requires armor patching kit

The ability to use repair kits to fix up your armor.

Art History

Requires no item

Understanding of the rich history of art in Allhearth.

Blacksmithing

Requires no item

Making and enchanting metal equipment. Blacksmiths don't create armor directly, but they can buttress metal armor's effectiveness. They also create metal parts for many other skills.

Calligraphy

Requires ink

The art of writing things. Handy for... writing things. It's also a valuable art for swordsmen and other warriors, who can infuse their art with potent additional effects.

Carpentry

Requires hand saw

Preparing and treating lumber, and making things out of wood.

Cooking

Requires an oven

Skill in preparing food for consumption.

First-Aid

Requires first aid kit

The ability to use first aid kits to heal yourself or others.

Fishing

Requires no item

The art of collecting fish.

Fletching

Requires arrowhead, base, and feathers

The craft of arrow-making. Most fletching recipes require elements obtained from Carpentry, so it's often handy to know both skills well. At highter level, fletchers also need various alchemy componets.

Foraging

Requires no item

The art of picking things up. Except mushrooms, those are special for some reason. Experts at Foraging are also experts at tracking down stationary items and locations (such as many Quest Objectives).

Gardening

Requires no item

Growing things in a garden: herbs, food, and flowers.<

Geology

Requires no item

Digging crystals out of the ground, and knowing what they do.

Leatherworking

Requires no item

The art of crafting leather elements for crafting.

Lore

Requires no item

Mastery of ancient knowledge.

Mining

Requires no item

Digging metals and ores out of the ground.

Mycology

Requires no item

Mastery of fungus in all its forms.

Skinning

Requires butchering knife

Skill in the act of removing fur or skin from an animal. This can result in both hides and meats. You need to be carrying a Skinning Knife in order to skin a corpse. Corpses of sentient creatures, such as Goblins and Humans, can't be skinned.

Surveying

Requires no item

Analyzing the land to locate valuable resources or important locations. Surveying has many uses, but is most commonly used to make resource maps for Geology and Mining.

Tailoring

Requires no item

The art of crafting cloth materials and armors.

Tanning

Requires no item

The craft of turning disgusting animal skins, furs, and hides into leather, fleece, and other material ready to be used in clothing and armor.
