TOPIC: Stuck on "Working: Connecting"

Stuck on "Working: Connecting" 2 months 1 day ago #17658

I have tried calling my Internet technical support (I am using Navy base wifi, so it is public and I have no control over the firewall and such). I have uninstalled the game cleanly and reinstalled, and it is fully updated. I have checked to see that my Internet is indeed working: I can play other online games no problem except PG.

The first attachment is the output log, and the second one is a tracer route that I did to s0.projectgorgon.com

I have encountered a similar situation. In my case if/when I have a ipsec vpn connection active at the same time as trying to open the project gorgon launcher it hangs at "Working: Connecting". I do not believe it has anything to do with the vpn connection itself, but that it assigns an internal address of (10.1.1.x) and creates associated routing for the bridged connection to a few 172.16.0.0/12 subnets

In my case just disabling the vpn resolves the issue. I mention it because I was wondering if the situation could exist with another network in general. (I can also reproduce this issue at anytime).

Your traceroute shows alot of similarities to the kind of situation I had. Specifically you are being assigned a 10.x.x.x address and routing through a portion of the private 172.16.x.x/12 subnet (172.22.51.90) so you would have a routing table similar to mine.

I would suggest the simplest way to test/verify it is a similar issue is to try a different network (starbucks, etc.) or try a tether'd connection from a phone if possible.

*It is also coincidental s0.projectgorgon.com resolves to 172.82.141.130, which if there is a bad route somewhere in regards to the 172.16.x.x/12 could hose things up.

But my other online games work just fine! Why is PG the exception to this?

If you are experiencing this issue, then please run 3 tracerts to client.projectgorgon.com and post the results here. Please wait 5 minutes in between each test.

Windows

Open the Start menu
  1. Click on Run
  2. Type cmd and then press the OK button to open a command prompt
  3. At the prompt, type tracert yourdomain.com and press the Enter key
  4. To copy the output, right-click anywhere in the window and select Mark. You can press Enter to copy all of the output, or select the text you want to copy and then right-click with your mouse. Paste the copied text by hitting CTRL + V.

You have a fine connection to the server, so we can diagnose the problem pretty reliably: this is almost certainly your firewall software keeping the game from accessing the internet. (I'm not sure why it worked before and doesn't work now -- maybe you changed from a 'home' network to a less-trusted network?)

I'm not sure what firewall software you're using -- it doesn't sound like Windows Firewall, because you'd remember pressing 'No' to disallow the game accessing the internet in that case! But in any case, whatever firewall software you're using, you'll need to add an exception for the game executable.

I'm actually not using any firewall software at all, that's the issue! :/ For some reason, the game just decides to get stuck at "Working: Connecting", despite me putting it as an exception to my antivirus as well.

My game is under Users>Me>Program Files(x86) if that makes a difference. But then again, that didn't make a difference before.

It's probably not helpful but I had that problem when trying to play PG on an older laptop with a really crappy video card (a Dell laptop). PG is actually quite hungry when it comes to RAM and video card specs.

My client got stuck on Connecting and I managed to get ingame once but the fps count was horrid so I stopped trying on the laptop. I don't know what machine you use to play but if it's got 4 Gb of RAM and some generic low specs video card it might be struggling with the PG client.

It might be worth posting the computer specs if it's not your firewall
